Airport Lagos

Public Sector, Art x Brand

Celebrating art and culture in aviation

Now more than ever, it is important to redefine the experience of passengers as they travel through airports in the new normal. As countries and airlines gradually ease lock-down restrictions, it’s clear that people want to fly again.

Spacefinish worked with the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to design and fit-out art installations at the Lagos International Airport which was constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

Being one of Africa's busiest airports, we designed the art installations to serve as a standard of excellence for international travel in the country. Creating an experience that not only entertains and excites passengers but also gives a glimpse of the city.

Size: 25,000 square meter

Completion Date: 2021

Scope: Interior Design

Redesigned to restore travelers confidence

Our goal was to redesign the stress points in the airport experience and restore confidence. With the interior design of this new international airport, we set out to first understand and address passenger needs in a COVID-19 world.

Physical distancing and reconnecting to cultural nuances were top of the list as must-haves for future travelers.

Airplanes in Departure Lounge

Conceived with an intricate focus on experience, we installed life-sized airplanes in the departure lounge to give passengers exciting scenery as they travel through the airport.

Telling Locally Relevant Stories

The art pieces in the airport celebrate the inherently diverse nature of Lagos State as a melting point of different cultures. By drawing inspiration from different iconic touch points in the city, we created a culturally rich experience for travelers.

"This improvement will increase airport operation and management services to about 14 million passengers per annum."

Paper Planes in a Vertical Garden

The Lagos International Airport represents an innovation in the world of vertical gardens with a one-of-a-kind relationship between interior space and greenery.

The vertical garden is located in the departure lounge of the airport. A garden that not only serves as a beacon but also creates a gentle sense of "paper planes" nostalgia for travelers.
